Altitude 800 - 2220 metres

The beautiful village of Samoens is linked to the massive Grand Massif (with Sixt Fer-à-Cheval, Les Carroz, Morillon and Flaine) and provides extensive on piste and off-piste skiing for all abilities with virtually no queues. Very few French resorts offer such a wide variety of skiing, and very few are set in such an amazing village with breathe taking panoramic views over Mont-Blanc.

The Grand Massif Express lift in the heart of Samoens (700m), takes you to Samoens 1600 in around 8 mins.

Skiing in Samoens couldn’t be easier with an excellent nursery slope area at Samoens 1600 for beginners to practise on.

Intermediate and more advanced skiers and boarders will enjoy the 49 red pistes and 15 black pistes of the Grand Massif.

For the more advanced there is also a testing terrain: The steep north-facing mogul slopes from the Tête des Saix, the central point of the entire Grand Massif system, down to Samoëns are particularly enjoyable.

Skiing back to the resort

You cannot ski back to Chalet Amaryllis from Samoens 1600 but you can ski down to Vercland (Now a local secret) where the old Saix gondola is between Samoens and Morillon using the ‘Velarge’ red run or ‘Grand Cret’ black run. From Vercland there is a free shuttle bus back to Samoens village. You can ski down to Morillon village on the ‘Diona’ red run, and catch the shuttle bus back to nearby Samoens village.

Les Cascades piste - this massif 14 km piste takes you from the summit of Les Grandes Platières at 2,500 m down to the village of Sixt located 900 m further down the mountainside. An amazing descent through alpine meadows and tree lined forests on one of the finest pistes in the Alps. A forest ski run on the edge of the Sixt Fer-à-Cheval Nature Reserve where it’s not unusual to come across mountain goats. 14 km sublime surroundings and breathtaking landscapes!

Snow cover

The slopes above Samoens face due north so above 1600m snow is very reliable, there is also snowmaking at around 1600m.

On average of the last few years the Grand Massif has had an annual average snowfall of 4.85m (16 feet) - one of the highest levels in France.
